Class Task#5-Born Into Brothels
1) How did you enjoy the film? What stood out for you?
I enjoyed the film because it shows us the other side of life. In North America everybody has a decent life. Often we don’t realize what others are going through in the world. I think as a human being it is our responsibility to ensure that everybody child has hope for a bright future. Personally, I liked how the kids improved their photography skills. I also liked how the kids used photography to let others know about their life. These kids never even touched a camera but once they received it, the showed that they have a true talent.
2) Did you learn anything new about photography, life, and people? What?
I think the movie is more about their struggles then it is about the photography. I learned that if you don’t think the picture is right, you can move the camera to an angle that could make the picture better because of the angle of the light coming. I also learned that no matter what you are going through you just have to follow your dreams. If you believe and work hard enough anything is possible
3) How do you think the world needs to change? How important is this?
I think the world has to change in many different ways. The first change that I would like to see is the world is that every child has a school to go to. I believe education is the answer to every problem. If people are educated they will be able to think better for themselves and the lives of the people will automatically start to change for the better. I think this is extremely important. I would put this above global warming, if we start educating children today it will pay off tomorrow.
4) What are you willing to do TODAY to be a part of that change?
I am willing to put all my time and a little bit of my money to start changing the world. I am only willing to put a little money because I believe it’s not how much money you use, it’s what you use it for. I think if everybody could just put a little bit of money and a little of bit of time into this the dream of sending every child to school could be fulfilled
5) Do you know a good song/rap/poem with good lyrics about change in the world?
Post a link or lyrics to share it with us.
I know a song that talks about change in the world. I really like this song because when ever I listen to it I feel like theirs hope for every one in this world .There song’s lyrics are:
[Verse one]
These streets remind me of quicksand (quicksand)
When your on it you’ll keep goin down (goin down)
And there’s noone to hold on too
And there’s noone to pull you out
You keep on fallin (falling)
And noone can here you callin
So you end up self destructing
On the corner with the tuli on the waist line just got outta the bing doin state time
Teeth marks on my back from the canine
Dark Memories of when there was no sunshine
Cause they said that I wouldn’t make it
(I remember like yesterday)
Holdin on to what god gave me
[Chorus]
Cause thats the life when ur
Living in the (ghetto)and
Eating in the (ghetto)or
Sleeping in the (ghetto) (ghetto)
Cause thats the life when ur
Living in the (ghetto)and
Eating in the (ghetto)or
Sleeping in the (ghetto, ghetto, ghetto)
[Verse two]
No need to cherish luxuries (cause everythin’ come and go)
Even the life that you have is borrowed
(Cause your not promised tomorrow)
So live your life as if everydays’ gon be your last
Once you move forward can’t go back
Best prepare to remove your past
Cause ya gotta be willin to pray
Yea There gotta be (there gotta be) a better way oh
Yea ya gotta be willing to pray
Cause there gotta be (there gotta be) a better day (ay)
Whoever said that this struggle would stop today
A lot of niggas dead or locked away
Teenage Women growing up with aids
[Chorus]
Cause thats the life when your
Living in the (ghetto) oh
Eating in the (ghetto) or
Sleeping in the (ghetto, ghetto)
Thats the life when ur
Living in the (ghetto)oh
Eating in the (ghetto) or
Sleeping in the (ghetto, ghetto, ghetto)
[Bridge]
Gun shots every night in the (ghetto)
Crooked cops on sight in the (ghetto)
Every day is a fight in the (ghetto)
(oh oh oh oh oh) (ghetto)
Got kids to feed in the (ghetto)
Selling coke and weed in the (ghetto)
Every day somebody bleed in the (ghetto)
(oh oh oh oh oh) (ghetto)
[Chorus]
Thats the life when your
Living in the (ghetto)oh
Living by the (ghetto)oh
Eating in the (ghetto, ghetto)
Thats the life when your
Living in the (ghetto)oh
Sleeping in the (ghetto)
Living in the (ghetto, ghetto, ghetto)
(wooohhoohh)
6) Pick a non-profit organization that is important to you. Why is this important to you?Do they have a website?
World Vision is a non-profit organization that works in many different countries. This organization makes sure that little children have a safe environment to go in. Also, they make sure that every child has a school to go to. They try to get people is North America to adapt these kids and sent money which will help them grow up and get a proper education. Thier website is http://www.worldvision.ca
7) What ideas do you have for media arts projects that we could do individually
or as a class to help contribute to these organizations that are important to us?
I think we could take some photos and try to make some money off them and send the money to these organizations. We could just have a little sale in our school.

Hey Faseeh,
I’m totally with you. Sometimes we aren’t purposely being ignorant, sometimes we just didn’t know…and as you said…we just weren’t educated. My hope that if I can initiate these sort of discussions and have anyone pay attention to these things even for this split minute in their life than there is that much more hope for a choice in them to make a difference.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I love your idea about selling our own photos.
